As of February 11, 2016, CMS has announced an extension to the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. For eligible hospitals and providers participating in the program, this extension should bring relief from unrealistic reporting deadlines.
Providers and hospitals are able to choose a 90-day reporting period, and have through March 11, 2016 to attest. For more information, including attestation requirements and actual reporting period start and end dates, visit the CMS web page dedicated to the EHR Incentive Program.
If your hospital is preparing to attest, or has gone through attestation, it’s important to plan ahead for the CMS audit process. CMS is auditing more than 20% of hospitals that have attested. We’re hearing from sites that are concerned about the potential of failing an audit, and are now facing the daunting task of re-paying all of their incentive dollars.
